Two athletes from Afghanistan have managed to win gold and silver medals during their maiden appearances in the ongoing games in Turkmenistan.
The first gold medal for the country was won by Hussain Bakhsh Safari who managed to defeat his rival in Jujitsu games.
In the meantime, the first silver medal for Afghanistan was won Ahmad Javid Amiri who managed to defeat his rival in traditional wrestling.
Afghanistan managed to achieve to medals during first appearances in the ongoing 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games being held in Ashgabat of Turkmenistan.
President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani last week promised cash prizes worth hundreds of thousands of Afghanis for the medal winners from the upcoming games in Turkmenistan.
The Office of the President, ARG Palace, said President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has issued a presidential decree declaring cash prizes for the medal winners, allocating cash prizes in three different categories for each of medal winners.
The first category is for gold medal winners who will be awarded cash prizes of up to 760,000 Afghanis each.
The second category is for the silver medal winners who will be awarded cash prizes worth up to 335,000 Afghanis and each athlete will receive the prize for bring home the medal.
The third category according to ARG Palace is for the bronze medal winners and cash prizes worth up to 201,000 Afghanis will be awarded to each athlete for winning a medal.
